Capuchin Monkeys

Home Page

Capuchin Monkeys are New World Monkeys of the genus Cebus. They are the most popular monkey kept as a pet. Commonly found in Central and South America, The Capuchin Monkeys are both arboreal and diurnal. Though they are not very demanding of their habitat, they are most commonly found in branches of trees. They are carnivorous and eat all types of plants, fruits, and berries, as well as insects, spiders, and small lizards and other vertebrates. Potential predators include jaguars, cougars, jaguarondis, coyotes, tayras, snakes, crocodiles, and raptors. The main predator of the Tufted Capuchin is the Harpy Eagle, which is one of the few predators ever actually spotted snatching a Capuchin.
